2027 OPEN CALL

We are now accepting applications for our 2027 Artist-in-Residence Program.

Artspace Irisa Iwazaki Shouten is a unique, renovated 1961 tatami material wholesaler that seamlessly integrates living, production, and exhibition spaces. Located within walking distance of JR Numazu Station, the studio offers a tranquil environment where artists can fully immerse themselves in their creative process.

​We provide comprehensive support throughout the residency—from initial research to the final exhibition.

We also welcome families and collaborators (up to 4 people total). We invite artists of all genres who are eager to engage with local culture and explore innovative forms of expression.

1. Residency Periods

Each slot is limited to one group.

① March 01 – March 30, 2027

② July 01 – July 30, 2027

③ September 27 – October 26, 2027

④ November 01 – November 30, 2027

Note: Minor schedule adjustments may be discussed after selection (fees may vary depending on the total duration).

2. Eligibility

  • Individuals or groups (up to 4 people) who can engage energetically in creative activities during the specified period.

  • Ability to communicate in Japanese or English in daily life.

  • Ability to cover travel expenses, living costs, and production expenses.

  • Participants must be covered by their own health and accident insurance during the stay. (The facility assumes no responsibility for any accidents or illnesses occurring within the premises.)

3. Residency Fees & Facilities

  • Residency Fee: 200,000 JPY (tax included) / 30 days (29 nights)

  • Facilities Provided: Exclusive use of the entire three-story building, including a studio/gallery, kitchen, bathroom, and parking space.

  • Included in the Fee: Accommodation, utilities (see note below), Wi-Fi, and access to equipment (power tools, lacquerware, etc.).

  • Not Included in the Fee: Meals, travel/transportation expenses, production materials, and daily consumables.

[Important Notes]

  • Utilities: Fees cover standard usage only. In the event of excessive consumption (e.g., overuse of air conditioning), additional charges may apply based on actual costs.

  • Production Requirements: Please consult with us in advance if your work involves the use of fire, high noise levels, or large-scale installations.

4. Support Provided

  • Coordination support for research and production.

  • Operational support for exhibitions, open studios, talk events, and other forms of presentation.

  • Assistance in connecting with the local community and neighboring artists.

  • Promotional support via our facility’s website and social media.

5. Residency Requirements

  • Requirement to present the results of your research/production (e.g., exhibition, workshop, open studio) during the residency.

  • Cooperation in providing information and allowing photography/filming for promotional purposes. The facility may use these records on its promotional platforms (website, social media, archives, etc.) indefinitely. (Copyright remains with the artist.)

6. Application Process

  • STEP 1: Application Please submit the required information via the "Contact Form" on our website.

  • STEP 2: Document Submission Please attach the following files to the "Contact Form" (PDF format recommended):

    1. Profile photo

    2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

    3. Portfolio

    4. Relevant articles/press (optional)

  • STEP 3: Selection & Agreement

    • Review: We will notify you of the result within one month of receiving your application.

    • Provisional Offer: Successful applicants will receive a Terms of Use and Exhibition Agreement. Once signed, you will be sent a payment link via Airbnb.

    • Confirmation: The booking is formally secured upon completion of the online payment via Airbnb.

 

Important Notes

  • First-come, first-served: Applications will close as soon as each slot is filled.

  • Results: We cannot provide detailed feedback regarding the selection results.

  • Cancellation Policy: Subject to Airbnb's standard cancellation policy.
