Artspace Irisa Iwazaki shouten
Hako-ten
March 16 - April 7, 2024
[Overview]
This exhibition commemorates the pre-opening of Artspace Iri-Sa Iwasaki Shoten. It showcases the history of the building, originally constructed in 1961 (Showa 36) as a tatami mat material wholesaler, and its transformation from a long-vacant building to its current form, using panels and models. The exhibition explores the construction techniques and craftsmanship of the time, as evidenced by features such as the wood-grain ceiling transferred onto concrete, the staircase constructed of iron and wood, and the concrete block walls. It also aims to share ideas about the potential uses of the space and raise questions for future exhibitions and artist-in-residence programs.
